History of Indian Head Massage and how it worksIndian Head Massage dates back nearly 4,000 years, it has been practised in India for over 1,000 years based on an ancient Ayurvedic healing system, which places an emphasis on balance and uniqueness of each individual. In the 1970's a gentleman named Narendra Mehta visited the Uk and was very disappointed to find that a full body massage stopped at the neck and nobody practised head massage. For Nerendra Indian Head Massage was part of his daily life and had been since his childhood, providing a real cure for aches, pains, tense neck and shoulder muscles as well as benefiting from an ultimate relaxing therapy which worked on the holistic wellbeing of the mind and body, increasing a person's positivity and energy levels.
Since 1995 Indian Head Massage has become a very popular therapy, this was when Narendra started to train people in the art of Indian Head Massage, so that he could recommend qualified therapists to anyone with confidence. When people are feeling stressed or angry, tension builds up causing knots, stiff neck and shoulders, eyestrain, headaches, migraines and sometimes hair loss. Indian Head Massage works by using firm and gentle pressure that is applied to the back, shoulders, neck, head and face, releasing and relieving blockages within the body. Indian Head Massage doesn't just work on the physical body but on an emotional level, relaxing clients and relieving symptoms of stress. Often oils are incorporated into Indian Head Massage and have many additional benefits to the hair and scalp. Oils that are applied to the head get absorbed into the roots of the hair, strengthening and reducing dryness not only to the hair but also the scalp. Regular massage promotes hair growth, slows hair loss and is a very effective way of keeping your hair in great condition. |

What to expect during a treatment Session
An Indian Head Massage session is 45 minutes long. Prior to the first treatment session a consultation will be taken either over the phone and confirmed when I first arrive at the clients home. Please be aware that this could take an additional 15 minutes on top of the first treatment. Clients will be using a specialist Indian Head Massage chair where relaxation techniques will begin or clients may use their own dining room chair. Once the client is relaxed and comfortable a full treatment will be given. Indian Head Massage is a very stimulating therapy that works the back, shoulders, neck, head and face. During the treatment some clients will experience different sensations as a number of different techniques are used such as friction, hand of heel rub, massage and pick up and squeeze! Clients will benefit more from this therapy if they close their eyes and completely relax. This therapy is enhanced by the use of oils including coconut, grapeseed, sesame and sweet almond oil. Clients are reminded that by keeping oil in their hair over night and washing it out in the morning increases the benefits of an Indian Head Massage. Obviously Indian Head Massage should not be undertaken if you are going out afterwards. Any areas that are identified tender or knotty will be reinforced to relieve the tension. Finally I will discuss any areas that show up during the treatment and offer post treatment advice.
